Hows vs Whys

So Reading Rainbow is being canceled after 26 years. That makes it one of the longest running children's shows in history, bested only by Mr. Rogers, and Sesame Street.

What's strange about the decision to cancel the show is that economics are only partly to blame. Another factor is that of shifting missions in educational TV. Essentially, Reading Rainbow taught kids the 'whys' of literacy, not just the bare bones of letters, words, commas and spelling.

Shameless Repost: Never thought I’d say this but…

Props to Glamour magazine for recognizing a smart move, and going with it.

This September in an article titled What Everyone But You Sees About Your Body Glamour writer Akiba Solomon discusses what frontline workers in the fashion and beauty industry notice about women harshing on their bodies:

“Terms like chunky, huge and gross don’t belong in my store. It’s partly selfish: I don’t want to be influenced by their negativity. Besides, if someone came in and started beating up my customer, I would intervene. The same goes for verbal self-bashing.” - Gyasi Atkins, Saks Fifth Avenue sales associate

The article features this pic of plus-size (size 12) model Lizzi Miller.

Late Summer: Update

I know I know, don't tell me, it's been a while since I did anything but the most cursory of postings here - you should see my twitter stream though. It's a rollercoaster of 140 character emotion.

Some stuff I have been doing since last writing about the move:

1/ Two job interviews, resulting in a much better outlook vis a vis future prospects money-wise.

2/ Lots of getting rained on, or avoiding getting rained on by staying inside. Including one memorable night of thunder, lightning, baking cookies and watching 'Anchorman', that, despite my fear of thunder, could be on the top ten list of ways I have enjoyed bad weather.

My Debug Bar

So, all you have to do is a) set up a virtual PC on your Intel Mac, then install the debug bar, and start browsing. The program has options to view pages, (like the crapped out one above) in IE 5.5, 6, 7, and 8.

I for one, feel pretty awesome about that.
