Where is mir?

Looking for jobs. So if you are wondering why this blog is out of date and boring, it's because I can only hack spending time on self-promotion in one venue. Also I finally caved and started twittering, so now I can take 2 minutes, write something foolish about wearing sundresses in the rain and go back to creating my professional profile.

I'll be back I promise, but it may be a few weeks.

Resumes for Disaster

in

Once upon a time there was a pretty young woman, who lived in a pretty apartment in one of the prettiest cities in the world. Now, this young woman had lived in her apartment in the city for a good while, almost 10 years, and over time she had developed an interesting and varied career in the non-profit and technology sectors.

Since she had lived in the same place for a while, and because so much of her work arrived through personal networks, her resume had begun to languish. Updated once a year, and reformatted never, it grew rusty, like an axe left out in the rain.

In April, when she graduated from school the young woman decided to make some big changes, and move to a new city. She chose Toronto, her hometown. It was exciting and full of opportunity, though intimidating, and more to the point, full of people who didn't know our girl from a parking meter.

Totally unlike the pretty little city she knew and loved.

Realizing that word of mouth would not work, our girl decided to revamp and re-think her resume.

Gentleman start your engines

So I did it. I defended my thesis.

That's right you are looking at a Master now.

Well, or reading the words of, in any case.

Summary: The defense went really well, we talked for about 2 hours. Comments were overall positive with one or two reservations about how I had described my method as an ethnography, and my reticence to "out" myself as a participant in the research. I am very grateful to the members of my committee Liz Miller, Dr. Sandra Weber, and especially to my supervisor Dr. Leslie Regan Shade.

That was April 6th.

The ensuing week has been incredibly strange, like a comic strip where the Coyote chases Road Runner off the cliff, and then runs for another five feet before looking down, shrieking, and plunging to his doom.
